Individual therapy is one-on-one work with a child or teen to build coping skills, promote resilience, address a specific life event (i.e. divorce, death, moving), reduce anxiety, boost mood, improve friendships, and work towards any number of additional goals. Depending on the age of the client, play therapy, talk therapy, creative therapy, and other approaches may be used. Parent involvement varies greatly depending on the age and developmental level of the child. Parents of younger children can expect to be extensively involved. Parents of teens can expect to their child to maintain more privacy; however, rest assured that the law requires I notify you of any danger your child may be in or may be at risk of causing to him or herself.
